The McCrae House

The McCrae House was originally written as part of a 4 song suite about the city I call home; Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae is one of Canada's most legendary war heroes, best known for his poem “In Flanders Fields”. Born in Guelph, McCrae served in the first World War as a field surgeon. Following his passing his home became a museum that celebrates his life. Of Scottish descent, the local pipe bands regularly perform at this McCrae House throughout the summer months. This piece is written in a pipe band marching style, and is a tribute to both McCrae and his heritage. The on-going drown in the piece is designed to mimic the sound of the bagpipes.
