December Dusk
December is the darkest month of the year in Canada. With the arrival of the winter solstice mid month, we experience the least amount of sunlight. It can be a very cold, depressing, and emotionally draining time of year. Yet underneath it all, there is a hidden subtle beauty, especially right as the sun starts to set. On a cold winter evening, as dusk starts to fall, you can see the sparkle and shimmer on top of the snow as it reflects the fading light. As the stars start to appear and street lights begin to shine there is a silent and still beauty to the light atop the fallen snow. This piece is an exploration of that beauty using a simple repeated melodic motif throughout. This piece is a wonderful opportunity for a young band to work in the softer dynamic ranges in an easy and attainable way.
